GOLF
CLASSIC A GREAT SUCCESS
The
Second Chance Society in partnership with Shepard’s Way
held the first annual Denis Watson Golf Classic at the Coral
Ridge Country Club on and raised much needed funding to support
two charities that contribute greatly to the continuum of care
for the homeless in our community. Senior PGA Champion golfer
Denis Watson spoke of his great satisfaction to be able to lend
his name to this fun filled day, which benefits projects to
assist those less fortunate among us.

LORI
PARISH TO SPEAK
Mark
your Calender to join us at our January 2008 Second Chance Society
Quarterly Fellowship Dinner, when our keynote speaker will be
Broward County Property Appraiser Lori Parish. The dinner will
be held at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on
January 29, 2008. Dine on a delightful dinner prepared by volunteer
chefs, enjoy fellowship with people who care, and hear brief success
stories from some of Second Chance Society’s clients who
have been helped along the path to economic selfsufficiency by
the Second Chance programs. |
 |
Clients
who are helped by the Second Chance Society programs are encouraged
to give back to their community. One way this is accomplished
is through Second Chance Society work days on which Second Chance
Society staff and volunteers join with Second Chance Society clients
to put in a few hours working on a Habitat for Humanity construction
project. The most recent Habitat event was on November 10th. The
next Second Chance Society Habitat for Humanity day is tentatively
set for Saturday, February 2, 2007. All are invited to participate
and to contribute their energy and skills to helping build a home
for a low income family which could not otherwise achieve the
dream of owning a home.

Legal
Aid’s Sharon Bourassa Moves Dinner Attendees
Keynote
Speaker Sharon Bourassa struck a chord with her personal story
of having been mentored to come from welfare mom to accomplished
defender of the poor in her work as an impassioned attorney litigator
and now the Director of Special Projects for Legal Aid of Broward
County. She drove home just how much it means to be helped to
achieve personal selfsufficiency, just as homeless and struggling
people are today through the
Second Chance Society Hand Up Program. Those in attendance at
the Fall Fellowship Dinner, and who braved the blustery winds
of passing storm Noel were so well rewarded by Sharon, and by
the opportunity to hear recent testimonials of success and gratitude
by several SCS clients. |
