Accounting Operations Specialist

About the Role

POSITION SUMMARY
Second Chance Society seeks a highly organized Accounting Operations Specialist who is well versed in generally accepted accounting principles. The Accounting Operations Specialist will be responsible for management of vendor relationships, and organizational accounting systems to manage payroll, reconciliations, as well as publish monthly financial reports.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with QuickBooks and ADP, as well as the demonstrated ability to balance strong attention to detail and analytical skills with an engaging, consultative, relationship-focused approach to working with people.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Creates and manage journal entries in QuickBooks.
• Manages all accounts payable and receivables.
• Leads bank reconciliation of multiple accounts and financial statements.
• Manages payroll, payroll tax quarterly reporting, and annual reporting.
• Ensures timely issuance of checks.
• Reviews grant reimbursements on a monthly basis to include authorizations, documentation, etc.
• Prepares monthly financial statements for review at Board meetings.
• Assists with preparation and maintenance of annual and mid-year budget.
• Prepares all financial documents and reports for internal and external audits, monitoring/site visit activities, etc.
• Maintains documentation of reconciliation processes and activities.
• Participates in all fiscal and fundraising activities.
• Onboards new hires with applications, background screenings, filing of all necessary I-9 documentation, distributes organizational documents/employee manuals to be signed by employees annually.
• Performs basic office tasks including answering phones, responding to emails, processing mail, filing, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION
The compensation for this position will range from $25-$30 per hour based on experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of an Associate degree in business, public, or non-profit administration, social work, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.

  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar role emphasizing financial accountability and management.

  • Nonprofit experience highly preferred.

  • QuickBooks desktop and online experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated success as an accounting professional.

  • Demonstrated ability to think ahead, work collaboratively, and with accountability.

  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and multitasking skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite software.
